Positive Material Identification ensures that installed pipes, fittings, flanges, and weld consumables conform to specified alloy metallurgy without removing samples from the line.

Handheld XRF analyzers emit low-energy X-rays that displace inner-shell electrons from atoms in the sample. As outer-shell electrons drop down to fill vacancies, characteristic fluorescent X-rays unique to each chemical element are emitted. The detector measures photon energy levels and calculates elemental percentages (Cr, Ni, Mo, Ti, Mn, Fe) in seconds.
