Eddy Current Testing (ECT / ET) is an electromagnetic non-destructive testing method that utilizes electromagnetic induction to detect surface-breaking and near-surface cracks, corrosion thinning, heat treatment variations, and material alloy sorting in conductive metals without requiring couplant or removal of non-conductive coatings.

An alternating current flowing through an inspection coil generates an oscillating magnetic field. When placed near a conductive metal, circular eddy currents are induced in the test piece. Discontinuities, thickness changes, or conductivity shifts disrupt eddy current flow, altering coil electrical impedance displayed as vector phase loops on calibrated digital ECT screens.
